Operating Display

LCD Display: Alpha/numeric display, reports all regulating, controlling and self prompting functions.

Lights: Green Ready Light indicates full power and system is ready to accept cart. Red Alarm Light indicates detection.

Alarm Audio: Audible tone indicating detection of target instrument.

Bar Graph: LED indicates detection intensity (based on volume and composition of metallic instruments).

Technical Specifications

Electronics: Digital-controlled pulse induction detector; microprocessors utilized in both detection and control circuitry. Electronics are modular and designed for easy plug-in and servicing.

Detection Field: Unique coil design offers a detection field uniform in both horizontal & vertical planes.

Self Diagnostic: Performs self-test automatically with any failures or problems reported on the LCD Display.

Sensitivity Levels: Preset for typical requirements. Can be adjusted to provide for greater or lesser sensitivity.

Control Outputs: Solid state switches (low voltage AC or DC) for operating external alarms and control devices.

Traffic Counter: Built-in and resettable with current reading easily available on LCD panel.

Tamperproof: Dual-level access codes required to set or change sensitivity settings; one level for use by supervisors in selecting sensitivity and the other for initial set-up and overall control.

Construction: Attractive scratch and mar resistant laminate detection panels. Touch Pad and Power Console constructed of heavy-duty aluminum.

Infrared Sensor: Improves analysis of detection signal; increases through-put; helps eliminate false alarms.

Interference Rejection: 100% sensor coil Faraday shielding; RFI interference reduced with hardware; special built-in circuitry for noise suppression and ignoring x-ray monitor horizontal sync. Coil design minimizes physical interference.

Electrical: Fully automatic 100 to 240 VAC, 50 or 60 Hertz, 5 watts; no rewiring, switching or adjustments required. Power supply meets UL, CSA, TUV and VDE standards.

Operating Temperatures: -4°F (-20°C) to +158°F (70°C), Humidity to 95% noncondensing.

Throughput Rate: Detection rate of throughput is not limited by electronics. Controlled, unimpeded walk-through or waving of bags is required to minimize false alarms. System is capable of scanning 15-20 bags per minute.

System Weight: MD-2000 - 90 lbs., Mobile Platform - 40 lbs., EZ-Glide Bag Scanner - 25 lbs.

  • IEC standards for Electronic Measuring Apparatus.

  • FCC Class B standards for noise emission from commercial electrical equipment.

  • Conforms to the new European Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive, 89/336/EEC.

Public Safety

The peak magnetic field strength of less than one Gauss will not affect magnetic recording media, including magnetic tape, diskette and cards. The Magnascanner Technology has been tested in accordance to and meets the electromagnetic safety requirements of:

  • Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers: "A Standard for Safety Levels with Respect to Human Exposure to Radio Frequency Electromagnetic Fields, 3 kHz to 300 Ghz." IEEE C95.1-1991 section 4.12.

  • OSHA: Radiation Protection Guide, CFR 1910.97, section (2)I.

  • Canada Health and Welfare: Performance Standards (Walk Through), RPB-SC-18 section 3.2.2 which addresses the issue of electromagnetic effects to cardiac pacemakers.
